Image Size: 15 3/8 x 24 Signed/Numbered Prints - $96.00 Signed A/P Prints - $120.00 Into The Land of Plenty - On August 23, 1804, the day after Patrick Gass was made Sergeant the Corps of Discovery proceeded very slowly because the fine sand was driven off the numerous sand bars in such great clouds that they could barely see. They encountered the same conditions 2 days before when they passed the Big Sioux River. They decided to make camp and Captain Clark and Private Joseph Fields went hunting on the north side of the river. It was an extensive and delightful prairie which they called the buffalo prairie.... |

He kept a fire to ward off the mosquitoes and knats which also provided illumination for his writing.... |
