Prints by Ron Backer:

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Ron Backer's heritage is on the "Great Plains". A terminology first used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Ron was born and raised not far from the Missouri River in southeastern South Dakota, in the shadow of the footprints of Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. With his paintings Ron records his interpretation of the exciting events that took place in the land of his ancestry. His research and paintings tell a story of the past historical legacy that he hopes to leave for our future generations. Ron calls it "Yesterday's Happenings With Today's Imagination". He was honored by being inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame in 1996 as "Artist of the Year".
As we approach the 2003-2006 bicentennial he continues to follow their footsteps with paintings of the daily events that took place on that amazing trek to the Pacific Ocean.

They encountered the same conditions 2 days before when they passed the Big Sioux River. They decided to make camp and Captain Clark and Private Joseph Fields went hunting on the north side of the river. It was an extensive and delightful prairie which they called the buffalo prairie....

Signed A/P Prints on paper - $120.00

A Thoughtful Entry - Exploring the land in advance of his party, Captain Meriwether Lewis often ranged farther and farther from the boats, sometime so far in advance that he had to spend the night alone, with his dog of course, waiting for the boats to arrive in the morning. He kept a fire to ward off the mosquitoes and knats which also provided illumination for his writing....
